Just Sharing A Few Photos

I hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day Holiday, at least those in the US who celebrate it. I finally have been able to hop onto the computer. I figured that since there was so much sport on TV that the husband wouldn't be on it much....boy, was I wrong! I had it for about 5 minutes this morning and I finally said to him about 4pm "Can I PLEASE have the computer???"....lol. Much as I love him being home for the day it will be nice tomorrow when he is back at work and I can just sit on the computer as much as I want.

I also wanted to update my blog so you didn't have to keep looking at that expired Treasury. I didn't have anything so I thought I'd at least share a few photos that I took at Red Rock Canyon during our last visit. The bottom photo I actually adjusted to black and white in Picasa as I thought it made the rocks look really cool. Plus, I'm a huge black and white fan. Two of my most favorite photographers are Ansel Adams and Man Ray. Years ago, when we were living in London they were having a Man Ray exhibit at The Barbican which I was able to check out. It was brilliant. The Bellagio had an exhibit of Ansel Adams work a while back, sadly I didn't get to go as by the time I heard about it it was almost over. I really hate fighting the traffic on the Strip so I skipped it. Next time, no excuses.

Photo Tag

Deb over at Stroll Through Storyland has been kind enough to tag me. It is a photo search from your 6th file and the 6th photo. So here it is:

One of my photos from Red Rock Canyon here in Las Vegas. Now I'm supposed to tag 5 more people but here is what I'm gonna do....consider yourself tagged if you are reading this and stop by my blog and you can play along if you want. If not, then don't worry as long as you enjoy the photo.

Playing Tourist

My 81 year old mother-in-law is visiting from England, so we are playing tourist while she is here. Funny thing is she really isn't interested in visiting all the fancy casinos on The Strip much. Her favorite place is Red Rock Canyon and we drove up there last Saturday. The first photo was at a shop in the MGM Grand on the one night when we took her there and to the Bellagio to watch the show they have in the fountains at the front. If you haven't been to Las Vegas this show is great and it's a free one. Basically, they have different themes of music and the fountains "dance" to the music. She did enjoy that. She is definitely a good sport and tried the "Elton John" sunglasses on to amuse her son.

Saturday was super hot when we went to Red Rock Canyon so of course at one point it was break time. Sadly this spot was not in the shade but at least she could sit down. She is 81 and not used to 90+ degree weather. We may need to take her back up there this Saturday before she leaves. I think this will be her last visit over here but that will be another post.

Well, we didn't go on any of the rides on top of the Stratosphere Tower but Sunday we did go to the top and take a few snaps. That is Las Vegas Boulevard AKA The Strip behind us. The views up there are spectacular although you can see it was a hazy day. Never been up there at night but that would have to amazing too with all the lights in the valley. Oh and yes there are rides up there, check them out here. It's always weird that you live somewhere like Las Vegas and never really do these things until someone visits. Even more weird since we live pretty close to The Strip. At least it's a great excuse to play tourist.

Viva Las Vegas?

For those of you who have never been to Las Vegas or have only visited the Strip, here is the other side of Sin City. The side that has no neon lights or showgirls. I had a purpose today, to go to Red Rock Canyon to shoot some photos for a project. Not that I minded. This is one place I can go to over and over again. I have to admit it though, I'm a "city" girl. I feel most at home in somewhere like London or New York. Despite that, I thoroughly appreciate nature and Red Rock Canyon is a great place to do it. Best part is it's only about a 30 minute drive from the Strip, depending on our wonderful traffic here.

Today, I only went to the entrance and parked the car to take these photos but you can go on a drive through and even hike there. The last few times that my mother-in-law has visited from England we have taken her there. As someone who grew up on Westerns she is fascinated by the desert landscape. She was 80 years old on her last visit and to watch her looking at this stunning landscape is so rewarding. It doesn't cost much for the drive ($5US I think) but no matter the price it is something that everyone should do if they visit Las Vegas for more than a weekend. Just make sure if you do it in the height of summer bring PLENTY of water. When it's 110 on the Strip it's probably about 125 out there. If you are interested then check out the site with all the information http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/, explains it much better than I can. I just wanted to share this one stunning part of this city.
