Neighbors From Hell!

Ever have one? I'm sure the majority of you have, at least once in your life. Right now my husband and I have one. Fortunately we are in an apartment/condo and the company who we rent from has other units available in the same complex. This weekend we will be moving about 100 yards away to get away from this guy. Often times with nutty neighbors it is impossible to deal with them in a rational way because THEY are not rational. This is exactly the case with our neighbor.

We had received a letter in the mail from the Homeowners Association about a complaint from a neighbor regarding our excessive noise at late hours. Well, since my husband has to get up for work at 7am we generally aren't up real late, 11pm is around when we go to bed. My husband went down to ask if they knew anything about the letter and of course it had nothing to do with him. As most of you know, I'm unemployed and so obviously I'm at home all day. I spend most of my time sitting on the computer but of course I do household chores too. Now, I'm 5 feet tall and though I could lose 5-10 pounds I certainly don't think I'm overweight but according to our neighbor I walk around all day like a herd of elephants. So over the past few days I have literally been tip-toeing around so as not to disturb them below. Apparently this was the guy's only complaint about us and that is not excessive noise and nor is it in the late hours. Oh and I should add that he believes I'm doing it on purpose to pi$$ him off! Like I said, NOT rational.

While it is a pain to have to pack everything up and move from a place that I really like to another because of someone else, my husband and I both agree that life is too short to be in a situation like this. Why be unhappy and always worried about being harassed by the HOA and the nutty neighbor? Moving what personal possessions we have is a small price to pay. With my mother-in-law(who is 81) coming to visit in May it is also a better idea to not subject her to any of this. One funny thing is that despite the other unit we are moving into being slightly smaller than the current one and in between as opposed to on a corner as we are now, it is MUCH nicer as far as the interior goes.

  1. Uhm, seems to me you should not have to move at all. Although you are probably right he would just go on harassing you. But does the HOA realize that they are creating a monster? If they accede to him on things like this where there is obviously NOT a problem they will never be able to rent that unit. 'Cause there is no one alive that can live in an apartment and make no noise at all. Unless that person is Caspar.
I am very sorry for your troubles. Sounds like the guy is a total *(&&*())^%$^&*)_\

Want me to send Abigail over to butt him? heh heh

  2. Good lord! I'm sorry you're having to deal with such a grumpy ol' coot! The worst we've had is a bunch of kids in the yard next door (only a chain link fence between them and us) and they're always throwing stuff over the fence, losing their balls and asking us to throw them back over, sticking sticks through the fence to bang on our walls and windows; just a whole pack of obnoxious kids 4-10, all completely unsupervised!

  3. Boy, we've had a few of them! I'm sorry you have to move. I'm a little surprised at the reaction from the HOA. In my experience, they always required extensive proof from several people that there is an ongoing issue. But then again, we haven't rented in over 20 years! My, how times have changed!

  4. The sad thing is this is a young man in his 20's and he lives with his mother. Yes the HOA and our landlord are aware of the fact that he is causing problems and he has a different landlord. Obviously our landlord wants things resolved otherwise he won't be able to rent to anyone else, we certainly wouldn't have moved in had we known.

  5. I once had a landlord like that who lived underneath us and said that in the mornings when I got ready for work when I walked around in my heels it disturbed him -- I mean what are you supposed to do fly around the place? I feel your pain. So glad to hear you're getting away from it!

  8. You poor lady. I feel your pain, people like that impact your life & drag you down. Good on you for moving!

I too have the neighbour from hell & we are in a house with a 6' fence between us.

I cant even begin to describe my neighbour - suffice to say that it's my belief the woman is mentally unstable. Having never experienced anything like this before in my adult life - it's come as a shock & a real eye opener to me.

  10. It has happened to me before too. I like to sew late at night and I used to get so many complaints. Now we live in a house and I can sew as late as i want.

  11. I agree, life is too short to have pissy neighbors to deal with, move and enjoy, it's a give and take kinda situation and maybe this move is all for the best. Look at it as a glass half full.

  12. If I am in the same situation I will make the same decision just like you, I don't want to spend my time only to hear someone complaining about nothing.

  13. That is fortunate that you can change apartments! We had horrible children living on both sides of us before we relocated. I caught them one day throwing rocks at our house. They were about age 9 at the time. I was terrified of what they would do as they got older!

  14. So there's a silver lining! And at least you don't have to pack it all into a van or truck and move it far.

You'll be settled in, in no time!

  15. I have a neighbour that is in my opinion mentally unstable and hearing noises and blaming my family when we are not even there during the day. I am truly disturbed by this individual and I am going to have to file a restraining order on him. I know what its like, not pleasant to be harrassed by people with mental problems.
