Painting Pottery

Firstly, two things, apologies for the photo quality and second....I'm no Picasso!!! Now on to the fun part, my friend Jennifer and I decided to spend an evening at The Artful Potter here in Las Vegas. We went on the last Thursday of October as that is when they have Ladies Night. It was really fun and basically on that night you pay a $10 deposit but if you bring a dish to eat then your $10 goes towards your piece of pottery you purchase then paint. Luckily there were quite a few others there. I decided I needed a few new drinks coasters in the apartment which is the first photo of one of the coasters I made...both are the same. I didn't know until AFTER I had painted it free-hand that there were stencils I could have used..lol.

Bad photo but this is a donut pendant that I painted. Once I decide what to do with it then I'll get a better photo. They also had some triangle pendants and beads you could paint.

Another donut pendant, again, I'll get a better photo once I fix it all up.

We had a great time and plan to get a bigger group of friends together and do it again in the New Year. Next time I think I'll do a few small plates but they did have a great selection of large and small items you could paint and the range of colors is great. At least next time I'll be prepared so I may use some stencils.

Lastly, these are my new earring cards I ordered from an Etsy seller. If I had my own printer I most likely would have done them myself but I don't right now and it was a better price than going to Kinko's to print them. They came out pretty good and they didn't come with holes but I had bought the small hole punch at Michael's.

Favorites For Friday

Tomorrow I will be doing something I haven't done for probably 30 years.....going horse-back riding! I am SO excited too. A group of us women will be riding in the Nevada desert. Of course, I'm taking the camera so I can share this fun experience with everyone. I just hope it isn't too hot as it is still in the high 80's right now but at least I've got my Factor 30. This made it easy for me to choose this week's theme for my favorites - horses.

Copper Morning Mist Horse Pendant - KDemArt

Horse on a Sunny Day - Poochie's Pics

Horse Portrait, Metallic Ink - Coup

Handmade Reusable Horse Lovers Sandwich Bag - Original's by Lauren

First Snow Original Watercolor - Maria's Watercolor

I shall be holding on to those reins pretty tight seeing as (my husband reminded me sternly) we have no health insurance...lol.

Enjoy!

Blog Love

One thing I have enjoyed since I started blogging is finding other blogs that I really enjoy reading and following. Not all are craft related but since that is my realm then most are. So I would like to take this opportunity to send out some "Blog Love" to one of the many blogs I enjoy. I think this might be one of my new features on my blog, giving a different blog some love each week.

The first blog I'd like to send out some love to is John Wright Art. I have to preface this by saying I took drawing in High School and was lucky to get a C so despite the fact that I'm not an artist like that I do appreciate someone who is. John is an incredible painter and I am a bit biased too since he is from Nottingham in England (my husband is from Newcastle). Despite that bias you cannot dispute the fact that this man has some of the most beautiful paintings, quite a few of which are of areas around where he lives in England. He also has some colorful abstracts, full of bright colors which I can imagine having in your home would be the best tonic in the cold of Winter. Following Memories is one of my favorites, great Spring colors. John also sells his works of art on Etsy so don't forget to check out his shop too http://artyjohn.etsy.com/. John has this amazing eye and hand to bring these scenes to life and in such brilliant colors and all of this from someone who didn't even take up painting seriously until he was in his 30's. I hope everyone will send some blog love John's way since he most certainly deserves his talent to be recognized.
