Good Job Hunting

I know there are quite a few of us out there, victims of this economy, looking for work. Which, in this climate is like looking for a needle in a haystack. For me, it is all the more difficult since my husband and I only have one car and he uses ours for his job. So I am stuck looking for work mainly on the many websites out there. There isn't a lot out there and for the few jobs that are available there are way too many people going after them. Back in December there was a new In-N-Out Burger opening here in Las Vegas. If you aren't familiar with In-N-Out, which is only in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, well next time you are out this way and want a burger you need to go there. Sorry got distracted. So, this new resturant is opening and they need employees. There were fewer than 50 postitions going and 1000 people were applying for these coveted positions. I have to tell you that they pay much better than most at $10 an hour but 1000 people! That is crazy.

Someone had suggested I try looking for work on Craig's List. Most days I check out all the job sites to see if there is anything to apply for. I do office work so last week there was a position for an Administrative Assistant which I happily sent my resume off to with my nice cover letter telling them how good I am. What did I get as a response? An email with some cock and bull story telling me that I have to take a test before applying and here is the link to the "test". When I clicked on the link it was a website that you sign up and make money taking surveys. Well, sorry but that isn't a "job" and it most definitely is not a "test".

I also applied at a new resort that will be opening on the Las Vegas Strip at the end of the year. The first day you could apply online I was there with bells on. After going through quite a few jobs and the site telling me "you are not qualified for this position" I finally got one that I was qualified for. The "interview" was on February 2nd and really it was more of a weeding out process than an interview. I won't know until April if I have a real interview and then even if I do get the job, the hotel that I applied for doesn't open until October. Of course, I'd love to work there and if I had to get something in the short term before that started that would be great but I'm not holding my breath.

  1. MMMMMMM, In-N-Out. I go every time I get out to CA. Only been a few months, but now I really want one.

Good luck on the job hunt.
